Today on the Ruple Properties Blog we celebrate our nation’s independence and have a conversation with our Owner/Broker, Garrett Ruple.
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
According to Merriam-Webster, independence is the quality or state of being independent. Sounds simple, right? For the colonists in North America leading up to the summer of 1776, independence was not so simple. Those colonists wanted independence from Great Britain in order to be free of the unreasonable taxes the king created to pay for the French and Indian War. The Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on Thursday, July 4, 1776 declaring thirteen colonies as a brand new nation free and independent of King George III. Those thirteen colonies were New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence. At the age of 26, Thomas Lynch, Jr. and Edward Rutledge were the youngest and both from South Carolina. Thomas Jefferson representing Virginia and John Adams representing Massachusetts both signed and later became President of the United States. Other famous signers include John Hancock and Samuel Adams both representing Massachusetts. At the age of 70, Benjamin Franklin was the oldest signer representing Pennsylvania. These men, along with forty-nine other signers, changed the world!
And a quick side note in case you were wondering, Vermont became the fourteenth state in 1791 and my personal favorite, Texas, became the twenty-eighth state in 1845. You know I had to work in the great state of Texas!

I thought everyone following Ruple Properties would be interested in learning a bit more about our Owner/Broker, Garrett Ruple. Here is a quick Q/A … Enjoy!
What got you into the ranch business?
My Dad had been in the ranch real estate market for many years and after getting my real estate license in college I would come home some summers to show property for him and my brother with basement construction hanover pa. When I graduated from Texas A&M, I went into the Oil & Gas industry in Houston. When the Eagleford took off in South Texas it made sense for me to come back home and work on mineral land deals around South Texas— with a little arm-twisting from my Dad. That eventually turned into me driving around beautiful pieces of land with landowners, so intended or not, I was in the ranch real estate business. Following my Dad’s unexpected passing last fall, I become the sole owner of the company and I fully intend to continue my Dad’s legacy of ranch real estate services… with a few modern updates.
What year did you graduate from TAMU? Degree?
2007 with an Industrial Distribution degree which is somewhat of a combination of Mechanical Engineering and Business.
Married to Lana for how long? And how old are the girls?
Lana and I have been married for 6 years (still have her fooled I guess) and we are blessed to have two incredible little girls. Our oldest being 3 years old and our youngest just 6 months.
Favorite outdoor experience? Any pictures?
My oldest daughter just turned three years old and LOVES to go fishing at the ranch. She is probably already better at it than I am. There is nothing better than watching her excitement when she hooks a big bass.
Hunting, fishing, golf, playing music, scuba diving, and traveling.
Describe your favorite property you have ever listed?
Large ranch in Edwards County, TX on Cedar Creek. Incredible live water, amazing variety of wildlife and terrain. Dad and I spent a lot of time on this ranch and have a lot of good memories from working on that one.
Favorite place in TX?
Our ranch located near Charlotte, TX. Lots of great memories with family and friends and many more to come.
Describe an ideal evening with friends/family?
I think a fall weekend at the ranch where we spend the day fishing with the kids, hunting in the evenings, and then cooking and hanging out around the fire pit is pretty hard to beat.
Are you a coffee drinker? If so, what is your favorite?
Yes. I need it to function… My wife can confirm. My favorite is whatever she is currently brewing. Lana is incredible in the kitchen and that includes the coffee pot!
Goals for Ruple Properties? Short, Medium, or Long term…
Short term, I am working on opening an office in the Alamo Heights area of San Antonio and bringing on a few new agents in that area and around the state to broaden our reach. The team has recently grown with the hire of two new agents this year. I have engaged some pretty incredible talent on the marketing side to help us elevate our marketing programs and are exploring some really exciting options moving forward. Finally, our team is going to start working in the San Antonio Commercial market as well and recently added an agent who has extensive experience in both Farm and Ranch and Commercial.
Medium term, I am working on creating a farm and ranch focused training program to help educate our agents on all things land, mineral, farming, ranching, oil and gas, etc. with the goal of becoming more educated and better equipped to guide our clients.
Long term, I want to build a team of agents/brokers nationally (and maybe globally) that are like minded, hard working people who focus on integrity, and providing the best service to our clients. Farm and Ranch brokers sometimes get a bad reputation for various things and we want to be the firm people think of when they want the best representation and a group they can trust to put their interest first. On top of all of that, I am a firm believer that God has plans for this company and I’d like to use what we have here to glorify Him with what we do.
Favorite hunting season? What rifle/shotgun do you regularly shoot?
Deer season without question. We have worked very hard at managing our ranch and we are finally starting to see results. I am pretty hard on guns so I just bought a reasonably inexpensive Ruger deer rifle last season so I don’t have to worry so much about beating it up. As for shotguns, I have been shooting the same over and under since I was 12 years old until recently. My wife and dad got together and bought me a really nice Beretta over and under with both 28 gauge and 20 gauge barrels. Dad was excited about the new shotgun probably because he was embarrassed by me having to eject my shells with a pocket knife at skeet shoots.
